Logo for the Flemingard guild

I created this logo for my current World of Warcraft guild . Considering how this guild consists of all flemish and dutch players, I wanted to use the flemish lion (de vlaamse leeuw) as a symbol in this logo. I drew the lion by hand and vectorized it in Adobe Illustrator. The fonts used for this logo are “Market Deco” for the guild name and “Molengo” for the subtext.

It’s been over 2 months since I’ve posted any news. I always tell myself I should keep a blog and update it frequently, but that’s just as silly as asking a cat to bark. But to keep you updated: I finished my thesis project in June and I received my master degree a few weeks later! So I’m very happy to have completed my education and I’m even more happy to have a few months of total relaxation! Those last few days of the thesis project have been incredibly stressful and I’ve never done so many all-nighters in one week before. A zombie would have looked stunning compared to me. Now that all the stress is over, I have finally gained some weight! Something I haven’t been able to do in years…

I’ve spend most of my vacation working on the construction site of our new home. Isolating the roof was horrible though! Oh don’t ever make me do that again. Whoever invented glass wool and thought it was a good idea to stuff it under a roof, deserves a place in hell. I’ve painted the ceilings from the bedroom and the kitchen downstairs once already, because that needed to be done before the walls can be plastered. The next few weeks we’ll be doing the wooden ceiling in our studio upstairs. There’s still a whole lot of work to be done, but it’s a nice change from sitting behind the computer. I’m very excited and I hope we can move into the new house around the end of this year.

So my quest for a job has been lying aside for a while, I have so many other things to do. Besides working on the new house, I wanted to revive my love for graphic design and even attempt acrylic painting. Then there’s my sister’s upcoming wedding in September, which asks for a lot of preparation. I’ll be sending out some resumes in the near future though, I could really use some cash flow…

I created this birthday card for my sister’s 30th birthday. We were dog-sitting Dokus at that time, so I thought it would be nice to make her a personal birthday card starring her dog.

Master Thesis: “Transparent Identities in World of Warcraft”

Here you can find the dissertation I wrote for my master thesis “Transparent Identities in World of Warcraft”. (You can find the abstract to this dissertation here.) During this research I studied the importance of identity during World of Warcraft play and I developed a prototype that allows players to make their identity transparent in the game environment. My entire research project, from literature study to primary research and prototyping, is described in this dissertation.

The main idea in my thesis is that when World of Warcraft players have real life information about each other (having a transparent identity), this will improve the relationship between those players and consequently will improve gameplay greatly. I have supported this idea with existing theories from known MMO researches and illustrated it with my own research. Are you getting curious yet?
